Fighter Resources

Jomsborg uses the Jomsviking live-steel combat system. There are three styles of the Jomsviking system: Western style, Eastern style and Huscarl.

Western Style

western2

In Western style, headshots are not allowed and weapon contact to the body is decisive, but not forceful. Blows to the face, neck, or side of the head are not allowed and forearms and lower legs are not targeted

Eastern Style

Eastern2

In Eastern style, headshots to the crown of the head are allowed and weapon contact to the body is more forceful, requiring a strong helmet and some form of armor. Blows to the face, neck, or side of the head are not allowed and forearms and lower legs are not targeted.

Huscarl

Huscarl2

In Huscarl, the whole body is a target including the face, requiring a reenforced full-face helmet. Any hit that would realistically end a fight (e.g. to the hand) is considered a win.

Weapons

Variants of the same weapons are used in all three systems.

  • Weapons must be reasonable reconstructions of Viking age finds, at least 2mm wide on the striking edge and be approved for use by an experienced fighter.
  • No sharps or burred weapons are allowed on the field at any time.
  • If you are new, before you buy any weapon, check with an experienced fighter. There are a lot of unsafe, crappy weapons out there. Let us save you the disappointments from which we ourselves have learned. Two vendors you can trust implicitly are Paul Binns for weapons and Matt Poitras for armor.
  • DO NOT BUY: Hanwei/Paul Chenn, Del Tinn, or Depeeka weapons. These are mass-produced, poorly-weighted and brittle weapons for what we do. At best you will not fight well with them, and at worst they are dangerous.
